Everything you need to know about your cultural dining experience
The Boma is a traditional African dinner and cultural experience in Victoria Falls. Your evening begins with ceremonial hand washing and a taste of traditional village beer before the main event. The experience features an authentic buffet of local Zimbabwean dishes, live drumming performances, traditional dance shows, and interactive experiences where guests can learn to play drums and participate in traditional dances. It's an immersive cultural evening celebrating Zimbabwean heritage.
The Boma buffet features an extensive selection of traditional Zimbabwean dishes. Starters include smoked crocodile tail, salted groundnuts, and corn fritters. The main buffet offers grilled game meats (impala, warthog, kudu), marinated pork fillet, beef, marinated chicken, and a daily spit roast. Traditional "Umzingeli" Hunter's Stews (Potjies) are also available. Starches include peanut butter rice, sadza (thick maize meal), potato wedges, and home-baked garlic and herb bread. The menu also includes salad selections, soup of the day, vegetable stir-fry, pasta dishes, and bush vegetables. Beverages include local beers, wines, Zimbabwe's famous Tanganada tea, Rooibos tea, and filter coffee. Some packages include drinks in the price.
Yes, The Boma offers vegetarian options including salads, vegetables, sadza (maize porridge), and vegetarian stews. However, the menu is heavily focused on game meats and traditional dishes, so vegetarian options may be more limited. If you have dietary restrictions (vegetarian, vegan, allergies), please inform us when booking so we can notify the venue in advance and ensure suitable options are available for you.
The Boma dinner experience runs from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. This includes time for dinner, multiple dance and drum performances, and the highlight of the evening—the interactive drumming show which typically starts around 8:45 PM or 9:00 PM. This is when guests can learn to play traditional drums alongside local performers, making it the best part of the experience. Transfers to and from your accommodation are included in most packages.
The Boma isn't just suitable for children—it's an experience they'll remember for a lifetime. Imagine your children learning to play traditional African drums alongside local performers, getting their faces painted with authentic designs, and watching their eyes light up as they discover new flavors from the buffet. This is more than dinner; it's a hands-on cultural education where they'll learn about Zimbabwean traditions, music, and dance in the most engaging way possible. The interactive nature means they're not just watching—they're participating, creating memories while gaining a deeper understanding of African culture. With children's pricing available and a family-friendly atmosphere, The Boma offers an unforgettable evening that combines entertainment, education, and authentic cultural immersion your whole family will treasure. Bonus: Many guests also enjoy the "Vulture Culture" experience (usually around 1:00 PM at the same resort), a free conservation activity where hundreds of wild vultures are fed—perfect for wildlife enthusiasts visiting during the day.
