Frequently Asked Questions

Livingstone Day Trip FAQ

Everything you need to know about your Zambian side adventure

Devil's Pool is a natural rock pool on the edge of Victoria Falls on the Zambian side. From mid-August to mid-January, when water levels are low enough to be safe, visitors can swim in this pool right at the edge of the 108-meter drop. It's one of the world's most thrilling natural swimming experiences, accessible via Livingstone Island.

Devil's Pool is typically accessible from mid-August to mid-January, when water levels are low enough to be safe. During the wet season (February to July), high water levels and strong currents make it too dangerous. Livingstone Island visits are available year-round, but Devil's Pool swimming is strictly seasonal and weather-dependent. Always check current conditions with your tour operator before booking, as access can change based on recent rainfall and river levels.

Visa requirements for Zambia depend on your nationality. Many nationalities (including UK, Canada, US, Australia, and most EU countries) don't require visas for Zambia. For those who do need visas, options include: Day Tripper ($10 USD, valid less than 24 hours, available at Victoria Falls and Kazungula borders), Single Entry ($25 USD), Double Entry ($40 USD), or Multiple Entry ($75 USD). All visas are valid for 90 days from issuance. Highly recommended: The KAZA UniVisa ($50 USD) allows multiple entries between Zimbabwe and Zambia over 30 days and covers day trips to Botswana—it's excellent value if you're visiting both countries. Important: If you overnight in Botswana, the KAZA visa becomes invalid. The KAZA UniVisa is available online (e-Visa) or at major ports of entry. We recommend checking with your embassy before traveling. Our guides assist with border crossing procedures.

The Zimbabwe side (Victoria Falls town) offers more viewpoints (16 viewpoints along the rainforest walk), better infrastructure, and is where most activities are based. The Zambia side (Livingstone) offers unique experiences like Devil's Pool and Livingstone Island, plus the Knife Edge Bridge. Many visitors visit both sides for a complete experience. Our Livingstone Day Trip includes the Zambian side with Devil's Pool access (seasonal).

The Elephant Café is an ethical elephant interaction experience on the Zambezi River near Livingstone. You'll interact with rescued elephants in a natural setting, learn about elephant conservation, and enjoy a gourmet meal (breakfast, lunch, dinner, or high tea) on an open-air deck overlooking the river. The experience includes a 30-minute jetboat ride or road transfer. It's a responsible, educational alternative to traditional elephant rides.
